“What could be more important than our future? The big decisions that we take now will affect us and all future generations. How do we balance the benefits of economic growth against the risks of climate change? Can we rely on safe nuclear power, or sufficient renewable energy? How can we eradicate disease without taking other risks? Only science can answer these questions, but the science has to be good science and it has to be explained in ways that it can be easily understood. Good science communication is therefore essential to these big decisions, and the more we can share “best practice” in this, the more likely we are to get good decisions. The British Council is therefore keen to link the UK with Slovenia to share our experience and learn from each other through a series of Science Communication events”.
dr. Robert Monro, British Council Slovenia, director
"Only understanding and knowledge that is science-based is a good enough basis for taking the right, responsible decisions. Such knowledge should be the "entrance ticket" for stakeholders to participate in decision-making. In Slovenia we often lack this kind of science-based understanding and knowledge in media and other kinds of public discourse on issues such as environment, health, energy. Therefore the Voice of Science team will strive to make the voice of science more active, responsive and - louder!˝

Communication not based on professional grounds is “fog-selling”. And professional grounds without firm scientific evidence are ideology. Thus on one hand the communicators should take into account the up-to-date scientific findings and on the other hand scientists should understand that communicators are important translators of their scientific missions to different stakeholders. Therefore the project Voice of Science.
